01 The TripPacker's Review
MO Rooms: What's your Chinese zodiac animal?
Probably the most abstract hotel you’ll ever come across in Chiang Mai is MO Rooms. The hotel is a portrayal of abstract ideas, Eastern and Western, made real. To quote, “It is a multi-disciplinary space which combines the creativity of a variety of artists, architects, designers, local artisans, astrologers and alternative natural therapists”.
MO Rooms only has 12 rooms available. The artists/designers were tasked with applying the identity of a Chinese zodiac animal (rat, ox, tiger, dragon, etc.) into the room’s design. Therefore each of the 12 rooms is an individual artist’s interpretation of their Chinese Zodiac sign/animal.
Make sure you always
- If there is a particular room design you like, book it in advanced.
- Prices are subject to change depending on seasons. Call to find out.
- Parking space is limited.
Everything from the rooms’ interior to the building’s exterior was designed in accordance with Feng Shui astrology; the orientation and design of doors, windows, beds and toilets. The five earth elements (fire, wind, water, earth and metal) are also incorporated into the rooms’ design.
The concept to have one room to represent each of the Chinese zodiac animal stems from the founders’ desire to integrate ancient concepts with modern science, attempting to bring humans and nature closer to one another, due to their belief that all disciplines of nature are interrelated and interconnected. In addition to Feng Shui, MO Rooms also offers guests alternative healing foods at their Toru’s Stomach Bar and Restaurant.
Rooms are equipped with amenities including cable TV, hot water, a workstation, room slippers and more. The hotel also offers internet Wi-Fi services, a freeform pool, an on-call doctor for emergencies, laundry service, and airport transfer service. MO Rooms’ drivers are experienced and knowledgeable chauffeurs with the ability to speak English.
Overall, MO Rooms is an exceptional hotel, creatively and artistically presented that will give guests the feeling of living in an art gallery.
