If you’re looking for homemade ice cream, “I like ice cream” is the up and coming ice cream parlor that the youngsters of Chiang Mai are talking about. Their signature creation is the ‘cheese’ flavored ice cream. You’ll also find other exotic flavors such as melon, yogurt, dark choco-brownie, honey, banana butter, and more. The prices of their ice cream are almost dirt cheap which attracts quite a crowd on a daily basis.

For a healthy beverage, you may want to try Japanese soy milk from Tonew’s shop. If you don’t fancy soy milk, there are other healthy drinks such as fresh milk, corn juice, and pumpkin juice. Also served here are ‘Pa-tong-go – Deep-fried dough sticks’. These dough sticks are almost a foot long. Thais typically have these for breakfast, or before bed, with soy milk. If you want to try them out, do so before 9PM; there are various branches around town.

One classic Thai dessert enjoyed by most is Thub Tim Krob. Literally translated it means crispy rubies, however they are actually mock pomegranate seeds. These mock seeds are served in coconut milk syrup eaten cold with crushed/shaved ice. Mock seeds aren’t the only ingredients available so go there to find out what else there is. Steamed stuff buns are a fairly common snack for Thais of all ages. You can buy these buns from shops like Waraporn (in Bangkok only) or 7-Eleven (across the country). Buns from 7-Eleven are a quick hunger fix, but the taste can’t compare to freshly made steamed stuff buns. So if you’re in Chiang Mai and you’re craving a hot snack, go to Vikulpanich. The shop has five flavors for you to choose from; minced pork, pumpkin, black bean, gourd, and sweet cream. They also sell steamed pork dumplings as well.
