Good point: Krua Kaoyai Homemade is especially well-known for its ‘smoked’ foods list. Probably the most popular dish on this list are the pork spareribs.

Bad Point: Coming to the restaurant on the weekend is not the best time since the restaurant fills up very quickly for lunch and dinner. When the restaurant is full, service is more sluggish and unresponsive than usual.

Summary: The restaurant comes highly recommended, by the people who live in the area, and customers who have eaten here. If ever you are heading to Khao Yai National Park, be sure to stop by this restaurant to have a meal.

Krua Kaoyai Homemade: Specialties are the ‘smoked’ foods

There are a handful of towns and cities in the provinces surrounding Bangkok that are getaway destinations for short 3-4day weekends. If you want to be with the trees instead of the sand and water, make your way to Khao Yai. From Bangkok, you’ll only have to drive 100 or so kilometers to get there. If you arrive sometime during lunch, Krua Kaoyai Homemade is one restaurant you don’t want to miss.

Make sure you always

  • The weekend attracts a lot of customers. Come early to get a table and be prepared for slow service.
  • The grapes and mulberry are grown in the area and made into juice.

Krua Kaoyai Homemade is located on Thanarat road, on the way to Khao Yai National Park. If you come on a weekend, the restaurant is full of customers therefore don’t expect good service. To make up for it, they provide good food. Start your order with a glass of grape or mulberry juice. These cool drinks are refreshing and good for digestion. Follow this with the smoked pork spareribs; pieces of pork spareribs marbled with just enough fat that are smoked just right. It’s a recommended dish from their well-known ‘smoked’ food list.

Other recommended dishes that you ought to try include the fried tofu, Yum Song Hed, and the forest soup with beef. The crispy fried tofu and dipping sauce makes for a delightful snack while waiting. Yum Song Hed is a two-mushroom Thai salad that has Shitake and Straw mushrooms as the main ingredients. Finally, order the Kaeng (soup)Pa (forest) Nua (meat). This northern soup is popular among many. For dessert, you can either have Sala Loy Kaew or Coconut-flavored ice cream. Sala Loy Kaew is a dessert consisting of Salak (fruit) in sweet syrup with crushed ice.
