Dusit Zoo, 7 Wonders in Khao Din Wana

If you think that this is just another ordinary zoo, think again. In addition to the regular animals that you would expect to find in any zoo, Dusit Zoo has four rare animal species found only in this area of the world. These four animals are part of the 7 wonders of Dusit Zoo. To facilitate walking in the zoo, the zoo is divided into sections; African animals, Reptiles, Lions, Monkeys, Rainforest creatures, Birds, and many more. The 7 wonders are scattered throughout the Zoo.

First wonder is the Albino Barking Deer. As you can tell from the name, this deer is completely white. Reports claim that Thailand is the only country in the world with Albino Barking deer. The zoo is now home to 5 albino deer.

The next wonder is the Thai Brow-Antlered Deer. This species of deer is found only in Southeast Asia. It is a swift and agile animal often found in herds. Dusit Zoo has the largest herd of Thai Brow-Antlered deer in the world. The Third wonder is the Red Panda. Dusit zoo has 2 Red Pandas, both on an exchange program from Australia. If you would like to get a glimpse of the Red Panda, swing by during dusk; that’s when they feed instead of sleep.

Last of the animal wonders is the Red-Shanked Douc, a species of ‘Old World’ monkeys', also known as the ‘costumed ape’ for its extravagant appearance. The douc is not allowed to be bought, sold, or hunted as it is an endangered species. Because of their difficulty in mating, Dusit Zoo has only been able to breed 30 of these primates; a world record. A douc can fetch up to 10 million Baht.

The animals are not the only highlights of the zoo. Inside the zoo is the location of an Air-Raid Shelter that was built during WW2. It is the most well-preserved shelter in Thailand, and also an‘Unseen in Thailand’ landmark. Take a walk inside and learn more about history and war.

Sixth wonder of Dusit Zoo is the 111 year old teak tree. Not only is the age a wow factor, but this tree is also a memorial symbolizing the strength and relationship of Denmark and Thailand. The tree was planted by H.M. King Rama 5 and the Prince of Denmark at the time. Last wonderful attraction inside Dusit Zoo is the viewpoint of Anandhasmakhom Palace, built in the reign of H.M. King Rama 5 using marble for construction in Italian Renaissance architectural style.

Although the most promoted highlights of Dusit Zooare the 7 wonders, there is much to be seen and discovered in the zoo.

Be sure to visit the reptiles; Dusit Zoo has the largest exhibition of reptiles in SEA. Take a look at the greenhouses built by H.M. King Rama 7; architectural masterpieces made with stained glass and wood.

If you’re looking for a half-day or whole day trip, Dusit zoo is one of five zoos under the supervision of the Zoological Department with a ton of things to see and do for visitors of all gender and age.

    Editor's Comment

    • จุดเด่น:
    • The numerous entrances make it convenient to enter and leave the vicinity. The exhibitions and performances are entertaining for those who’ve never seen them. Many plants and animals, including rare species, can be seen at the zoo.
    • จุดด้อย:
    • Toilets are few and far from one another. The zoo does not have enough staff to watch over the exhibits, enforce the rules, and give information to visitors.
    • ข้อสรุป:
    • If you’re looking for a half-day or whole day trip, Dusit Zoo would be a good place to spend the day. Visitors can enjoy seeing and doing a ton of things; ideal for families. Although the 7 wonders are interesting, they’re not the only things Dusit Zoo has to offer.
