Wualai Walking Street: Shopping for snacks and silver on a Saturday night

If you like shiny objects, you wouldn’t want to miss out on Wualai Walking Street in Chiang Mai. This walking street appears every Saturday and covers a distance of three kilometers from the Chiang Mai Gate. Wualai Walking Street is one of the many markets and walking streets that you’ll come across in this lovely city up north.

Speaking of shiny objects, here is where you’ll find some of the finest shops for ornaments and home décor at reasonable prices. That’s because this street is renowned to all visitors for its silverwares, lacquerwares, and local handicrafts. For years, Wualai Street has been handcrafting some of Chiang Mai’s best silverware. As you walk along the street, you’ll definitely hear the sound of hammers shaping silver into various products.

Aside from decorative items, the street also offers a variety of goods. You’ll find plenty of northern foods, clothing, and entertainment along both sides of the road. If you’re looking for a snack during your visit here, look for Kanom Nook Gna, also known as Pook Gna. This Thai dessert is made from black sticky rice and black sesame seeds. A must try.

In addition to shopping, you can also stop by at Wat Srisuphan. This temple, which was built in the fifteen hundreds, is made up almost entirely of silver and is the only one of its kind in the world! Wualai Walking Street is the place to be if you’re looking for things to decorate yourself or your home. This street is truly a unique and charming street, sure to give you a slice of Chiang Mai’s cultural atmosphere on a Saturday night.

    • จุดเด่น:
    • Great place to go shopping for silverware and lacquerware to decorate you home. You'll find plenty of other goods available for sale as well.
    • จุดด้อย:
    • Parking is hard to find. It would be best to commute via public transportation. Unfortunately for women, they are not allowed inside Wat Srisuphan.
