Tiger Kingdom; Get Real Up-Close and Personal with Tigers

There is a Thai proverb that says “never catch a tiger with your bare hands.”  Well, there is a place in Chiang Mai that allows you to go against what we have been told for long and get up-close and personal with tigers; one of the most dangerous species on earth in (somewhat) secure environment.  Located at Mae-rim district, Tiger Kingdom is the home of Indo-China tigers that you can really touch with your bare hands and take photograph with.

Tiger Kingdom offers once in a life time experience by letting you get close to and play with their hand reared tigers in protected environment. Visitors pay admission fee to get into tigers’ enclosures; prices are different depending on the size of tigers that you would like to get close to.  There are Little Cubs (3-4 months old), Medium Size (12-16 months olds), and the Big cat (18-20 months old).  Visitors are only allowed to be with older tigers as beyond this age they are more likely to revert to wild behavior and are therefore less safe.  However, they can still be seen in reserve area

Tigers at the Tiger Kingdom are mostly Indo-China tigers but some are bred from Bengal and Sumatran parents.    There are well trained staffs at the enclosure to ensure your safety and limited numbers of visitors are allowed to be inside.

Highlight of the Tiger Kingdom is to get up close and personal with cubs and tigers.  You can take photographs, touch, or play with them; take any action you like but be sure to stay at their back and don’t face them directly.  Even though, all tigers at Tiger Kingdom are hand reared and are very well trained. But they are still wild animals, so be respected and strictly follow staffs’ instructions.

There’s also a restaurant inside with alacarte and buffet lunch service starting from 11.00 – 14.00.   During the meal, you can enjoy watching the big cats because the main enclosure is just next to the restaurant.

Before you leave, do not forget to stop by their souvenirs shop for some interesting local products.
