Pattaya Floating Market: 4 Regions in 1 Location
Although Pattaya is better known for its ‘dark’ side, it is a different city during the day. Pattaya is home to many attractions and activities such as Nong Nooch Garden, Underwater World, and now the Pattaya Floating Market; the largest man-made floating market.
Pattaya Floating Market has been opened since November 2008. It is Pattaya’s latest attraction, and occupies 23 Rais (37,000 square meters).
Make sure you always
- The lake and water around the compound is not artificial.
- Open every day from 10.00 – 24.00
- Performances can be viewed during weekends and holidays.
- There are more parking spaces inside the compound than by the side of the road.
AS the Thai name suggests, the market is divided into 4 separate parts. Each part represents one of the four regions of Thailand: Northern, Central, North-Eastern, and Southern. The market brings together the best of each region, including products and traditions.
Paddle boats are on standby to ferry visitors around the compound to visit the Thai-style teak wood buildings. The entire compound is linked by a network of canals, bridges, and a number of different sized islands with exotic plants and trees. The boat cruise is for foreigners to experience first-hand the way-of-life of riverside living. Visitors can admire Thai architecture at the same time. Water vendors move with their paddle boats from dock to dock offering their unique taste of freshly cooked traditional Thai dishes and desserts.
The floating market also animates the area with cultural performances native to the four regions of the country. You will get to see dances, martial arts demonstrations, water boxing, and many more. New additions to the Pattaya Floating Market include amphibian-boat rides, an agricultural rice field demonstration, authentic house-boats for home stay.
There are more than 110 shops on the premises. Wood carvings, silks and cloth weaving, Thai herbs and herbal products, and OTOP products are just some of the few things available for sale. Don’t forget to visit the ‘Nueng Siam Woodcarving Museum’. The museum has rare pieces of crafted teak over 200 years old. Inside is also an impressive and beautiful carved image of the elephant god Ganesha.
