Tung-Ka Coffee: Romantic dining on Khao Rung

Tung-Ka Coffee is more than just an ordinary coffee house. It is one of Phuket’s oldest, and it boasts the best view in town because of its location on top of Khao Rung. From here, you’ll get to see all of Phuket in 360 degrees. However, it is not the view alone but the coffee and food that has brought customers to this coffee house for the past 38 years.

Though Tung-Ka is known for its coffee, many customers come here for the food as well. Here are a few recommended dishes you can order if you decide to stop by. “Kaeng Poo Mii Luak” is a special recipe curry that smells of coconut milk and spices with large chunks of crab legs. This dish is best enjoyed with rice or vermicelli noodles. Another recommended curry is “Kaeng Liang Tung-Ka”. Watch out, this dish is spicier than it looks. Ingredients in the soup consist of Thai zucchini, pumpkin, mushrooms, and fresh shrimp.

“Yum Dok Dalaa” is a Thai salad made with Torch Ginger. The flower gives the salad its color and aromatic smell. You can also try out “Yum Sarai Talay”; Thai seaweed salad. For desert, order “Looktarn Tung-Ka”. It is the coffee house’s version of sweetened toddy served with vanilla ice cream. Aside from caffeinated beverages, the coffee house also serves cocktails; their “Tung-Ka Sunset” is a best seller.

Whether you are here for the view, coffee, or food, Tung-Ka is a great spot to relax on the island. There are plenty of trees in the area that provides many shady spots to sit. The weather on Khao Rung is also slightly cooler than other parts of the island. Come here to enjoy an afternoon sipping coffee, or have yourself a romantic dinner with the view of the island.
