Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall The Best of an Era, Experienced in a Day

As soon as you walk into the Nitasrattanakosin. Exhibition Hall, the image of old-fashioned museums fades completely from your memory. The exhibits are designed to be interactive with viewers. Not only that, each room does a great job at recounting the stories and history of the Rattankosin Era. The Exhibition Hall really is what the slogan says it is, “The Best of an Era, Experienced in a Day”.

A guide is present at each of the 7 exhibition rooms. Performances that take place in each room last about 20 minutes. Before entering the first room, you have to walk through a time portal that will depict events from the past until the present; what happened, when, and where.

The history of Rattanakosin begins in the first room “Impressive Communities”. 12 communities from Rattanakosin Island are gathered here. Only by standing on the graphic pattern on the floor, will they tell you their story.

We’ve been through quite a few rooms now, why don’t we take five? The sightseeing spot on the forth floor is a good place to relax; you can see Rachadamnoen Road, The Golden Mountain, ‘Pom Maha Karn’ (The Great Fortress), ‘Lan Plabpla Maha Chedsada Bodin’, and 'The Metallic Castle’ from a never-seen-before angle. Or you can have a drink while checking out the scenery.

The sixth room “Renowned Ceremonies” is a compilation of reenactments of various ceremonies that you can easily understand. You will also get to see ‘Royal Barge Procession’ in 3D. Not only that, you will understand the importance of ‘Royal Ploughing Ceremony’ held to support and boost morale of farmers; the backbone of the nation.

The final room is the “Graceful Architectures” room. Not only will you learn of Thai architecture in designing palaces, temples, and houses, you will also get to design your very own temple using multi-touch technology. You will also get to drive, ride horses, or take a boat ride to tour the city.

Nitasrattanakosin Exhibition Hall is guaranteed to be a museum like none that you have ever been to before.

Relive the experience on this 3-hour journey to the past, and discover Rattanakosin in the blink of an eye. This isn’t just a fieldtrip to learn about the history and culture of Rattanakosin. Once you understand the roots of the nation and its people, you will appreciate and love this country even more.

Before leaving, don’t forget to visit the souvenir shop for a nice little gadget to bring back home. If you want to learn more about Rattanakosin that the exhibits did not provide, there is a library with an extensive collection of books for sale, or just to read while waiting.

You wont be disappointed with Nitasrattanakosin Exhibition Hall.

    Editor's Comment

    • Strong point:
    • Interesting and interactive displays using various media to retell history. Rattanakosin Exhibition Hall does a great job at recounting the stories and history of the Rattankosin Era.
    • Weak point:
    • Few parking spaces. Prices in restaurants and souvenirs maybe higher than expected.
    • Conclusion:
    • You can learn about an era of Bangkok's history in a day. A really worth visiting place if you want to know more about Bangkok's history.
