Ao Nang and Railey Beach, Every rock climbers paradise.

Ao Nang and Ao Railey, or most commonly known as Railey beach, are two of the most well-known and popular destinations within the province of Krabi. Ao Nang is located within the boundaries of Nopparatthara – Phi Phi Islands National Park. Tourists can get to Ao Nang by private transport or busses available in town for 50 Baht per person.

Upon arrival of Ao Nang beach, it is clear that the sand here isn’t as fine as on other beaches or islands, but it is still a white sand beach. The trees which grow along the shore give the place a nice scenery and ample shade for those too hot to linger in the sun. There are also hotels, restaurants, shuttle boat services, and friendly merchants in the area to make life “sabai sabai”.

Ao Nang is well-known for having one of the best sunset views in Krabi. As you stare across the ocean, you’ll see long-tail boats aligned by the water, the color of the ocean’s surface change from clear blue to a copper orange, and if lucky enough, the sun dip into the sea. Ao Nang is the center for boats to take and bring back tourists from the various islands as well.

Railey beach is divided between two sides, Eat and West. The only means of getting to Railey is by boat. Hop on at Ao Nang and take a 15 minute ride to the east side for 80 Baht per person. It’s the same price for a ride back from the east to the west side. West Railey is a well-known destination for rock climbing.

At the far end of the shoreline, you will come across the unmistakable limestone cliff and wall where countless professionals and amateurs have tried their abilities here. If you’re a fan of rock climbing, or you want to get an adrenaline rush, definitely try out rock climbing. There are altogether three difficulty levels. Equipment is provided as a small cost, or you can bring your own equipment if you have any. Nearby the rock climbing area you will find ‘Phra Nang Cave’. This cave has a shrine which fishermen used to come to pray for good luck and a safe journey out at sea. Women would also come to pray and offer phallic statuettes in hopes of having children. An interesting sight to see.

All these attractions in Krabi is the reason why this southern province has been labeled as one of many ‘Unseen’ destinations

    • Strong point:
    • West Railey is a famous location for rock climbers around the world. Both at Ao Nang and Ao Railey can tourists enjoy beautiful sceneries, clear ocean waters, white sand beaches, and other marine activities.
    • Weak point:
    • Due to its popularity, Ao Nang and Ao Railey is always crowded with tourists. Most take up a sizeable portion of the beach because they sunbathe here. These locations are not suitable if you are looking for quiet time by the beach.
    • Conclusion:
    • If the crowd doesnt bother you, then Ao Nang and Ao Railey are perfect spots for tourists to enjoy marine activites, rock climbing, sunbathing, and viewing spectacular sunsets. Ao Nang is also the center for trips to the islands. Various amenities are available by the shore which makes vacationing here all the more enjoyable. Don’t miss out on these ‘Unseen’ locations.
