Rafting in Lower Nam Wa @Mae Charim National Park

Rafting! Just thinking about it makes my blood boil and adrenaline pumping. Especially since Nam Wa is the best rafting site in Thailand, and one of the top in Southeast Asia. The rafting site is in Mae Charim National Park.

Lower Nam Wa is not a intense as Middle or Upper Nam Wa. Teens and older adults will have no problem navigating these waters. It takes about 2 hours to finish the course. For the most part, the current takes you down the stream giving you plenty of time to enjoy the scenery. Hold on for a few surprises that you may encounter which will surely get you wet.

Before getting onto the rafts, you’ll have to listen to the safety instructions provided by the Park Rangers. Please listen, it is for your benefit in case an accident such as capsizing occurs. Once you have understood the instructions, put on your life-vest and helmet, grab an oar and get ready for action.

As mentioned previously, Lower Nam Wa isn’t as intense as the other levels. The Park Ranger has time to point out various flora and fauna as you travel with the current. If Lower Nam Wa wasn’t enough excitement, you can always test your courage by jumping off the 5 meter cliff which you will undoubtly see along the way.

2 hours have passed and unfortunately I’m already out of time to try out the higher levels. This can only mean that I’ll have to come back again the next time I visit Nan.

    How to get there

Cross the Nan River bridge and follow Route 1168. Turn left past Phra That Chae Hang Temple on Nan-Mae Charim direction for about 38 kilometers. Take Route 1243 (Baan Nasia-Baan Nam Muan) for about 15 kilometers until you reach Baan Huay Saimoon, then turn left into the park office.
